3. Thunnus atlanticus

Thunnus atlanticus

Thunnus atlanticus has a lot of mercury. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find tuna that have grown up in their natural habitat, as they are in danger of extinction. The fish you see for sale comes from special fishing facilities. In places like these, they feed the fish with antibiotics and hormones.

In addition , it makes your body more sensitive to allergens. If you suffer from heart disease, asthma or arthritis, try to avoid tilapia.

5. Eel

Eel is another very oily fish.  Eel easily absorbs all types of residues found in the water. Because of this, the levels of toxins in American species are particularly high. When it comes to European eels, they also have a high mercury content. It is not advisable to eat more than 280 grams for adults and 200 grams for children per month.

6. Pangasius

Pangasius, a type of shark-like catfish, grew up in Vietnam in the Mekong River. Malacanthidae is a fish that has a high level of mercury pollution. Due to this, it is not recommended for women or children. For men, the amount should be limited to a maximum of 100 grams per month.

8. Oilfish ( Ruvettus pretiosus )

Oilfish, also called Ruvettus pretiosus , have growth esters. This is a substance that is similar to wax and gives the meat an oily taste. This substance is not digested by your body. Thus, it can lead to indigestion, even if it is not very toxic.

To reduce the amount of growth esters, we recommend that you either fry or grill this fish.  However, if you have digestive problems, it is better to choose other options.

9. Sebastes

Sebastes has a lot of mercury. Therefore, it is of course  always better to avoid this fish and rather choose healthier species and those with less mercury.

Fresh is always best

It is also important to remember that fresh fish have transparent eyes, a firm tail and wet, shiny shells. If you think you’re apparently buying fresh fish and the tail is flabby, then it’s not as fresh as you think. You can also see if it is not fresh by looking at the fins. If the fins are dry and the gills are gray instead of red, the fish is probably not fresh.
